Mulch Installation in Cedar Grove
Mulch does more than tidy up a bed. On Cedar Grove’s clay soil, a proper layer holds moisture during the dry stretches that hit the open lots toward the county roads, moderates the soil temperature, and keeps weeds from sprouting where the lawn ends. Done right it’s one of the cheapest things you can do for plant health. Done wrong, it slowly kills the very trees it’s supposed to protect.
Two to Three Inches, and Never a Volcano
The depth that works is two to three inches. Less and the weeds push through, more and you smother the roots and hold them too wet. The mistake we undo most often around here is the mulch volcano: mulch piled high against a trunk, where it traps moisture against the bark, invites rot and rodents, and chokes the tree. We pull mulch back into a flat ring a few inches off every trunk, edge the beds clean, and lay fresh mulch at the right depth over weeded, prepped ground.
Fresh mulch finishes a landscape design and protects the roots after tree and shrub care. See our mulch installation page, with the rest on the Cedar Grove page.
