Lawn Care & Landscaping in
Lakeside, ST

Lawn care and landscaping for Lakeside homes and lake cottages. Mowing, sod installation, moss treatment, and seasonal upkeep from Summit Lawn Care since 1985.

Lawn Care for the Lake

Lakeside wraps around the southern shore of Crescent Lake, about 20 minutes north of our Springfield shop, and it’s one of the more interesting lawn towns we serve. Half the housing stock started life as summer cottages, and a steady stream of those cottages have been converted into year-round homes over the past two decades. The other half is conventional neighborhood construction in the blocks between the lake and Route 9.

That split shapes the work we do here, because a shady shoreline lot and an open inland yard are two different lawns with two different problems.

Shoreline Shade and Open-Lot Sun

The cottage lots near the water sit under mature shoreline trees, and between the shade and the moisture off the lake, the turf stays thin and the moss moves in. These yards do best with a shade-tolerant grass, a higher cut, and better airflow and drainage around the low spots. In the fall the shoreline trees drop a heavy leaf load, and leaf removal keeps it from matting down and killing the grass underneath over winter.

The conventional lawns inland have the opposite issue: open, full-sun lots that bake in midsummer. Drought stress thins the turf and crabgrass moves into the gaps, so these yards lean on a steady fertilization program and well-timed weed control to stay thick enough to crowd the weeds out.

When a lakefront remodel tears up the yard, bare or failed turf often needs to start over from scratch. Sod installation gives an instant established lawn: we prep the soil, lay the sod tight, roll it in, and set the watering schedule so it roots before it dries out.

The Vacancy Problem

Plenty of Lakeside properties sit empty for weeks at a time, which is exactly when a lawn gets away from you. Grass that goes uncut for a month ruts under its own weight, weeds go to seed, and what was a yard becomes a project. A regular mowing route fixes that, and our seasonal cleanup gets a neglected property knocked back into shape in spring and put to bed in fall.

From the public landing to the coves on the north shore, Summit Lawn Care keeps Lakeside green in every season. Schedule service online or call (555) 123-4567.

Lakeside Lawn Care Questions, Answered

Can you take care of a lawn at a cottage I only visit on weekends?
Yes, vacant and seasonal properties are a big part of what we do at Lakeside, and a regular route is the whole point. We keep the lawn mowed, edged, and treated on a set schedule so you arrive to a yard that's handled instead of a foot of overgrowth and weeds gone to seed.
Why does my Lakeside lawn grow moss and stay damp?
Moisture off the lake and shade from shoreline trees keep the soil damp, and damp, shaded turf is where moss takes over from grass. We treat the moss, improve the drainage and airflow, raise the mowing height, and overseed with a shade-tolerant grass so the lawn can hold its own.
How quickly can you reach Lakeside?
We're about 20 minutes south of Lakeside, and the route is on our weekly schedule. A free lawn analysis usually happens within a couple of days, and seasonal cleanup or storm debris work can go out the same week you call.
Is new sod or seed better for a lakefront yard?
Sod is usually the better call for a lakefront yard because it gives you an established lawn the day it goes down, which holds the soil on a sloped or shoreline lot instead of washing out before seed can take. We prep the ground, lay the sod tight, roll it in, and set the watering schedule so it roots fast. Open inland lots with more time and less slope can do well with overseeding instead.
