Mulch Installation in Lakeside
Fresh mulch does more than tidy up a Lakeside yard. On the clay-heavy lots near Crescent Lake it slows how fast beds dry and crust over, it blocks the weeds that creep in along shaded edges, and it keeps the soil temperature steady through the swings of a four-season market. The trick is getting the depth and the placement right, because more is not better.
Two to Three Inches, and Off the Trunks
We lay mulch two to three inches deep. Thinner than that and weeds push through and the moisture benefit fades; thicker and it can suffocate roots and shed water before it soaks in. The detail that matters most is keeping it pulled back from the base of trees and shrubs. Piling mulch up the trunk, the volcano you see all over, traps moisture against the bark, invites rot and insects, and slowly kills the tree it was meant to help. We leave a clear ring at the flare and edge the beds first so the mulch holds a crisp line.
Mulching is the finishing step after a landscape design and keeps the beds under your trees and shrubs healthy. See the mulch installation page and the Lakeside hub.
