Hardscaping & Patios in Lakeside
A patio with a view of Crescent Lake is worth building right, and around here that means respecting the clay underneath it. Paver patios and walkways set on Lakeside’s clay-heavy soil fail the same way every time: skip the base work and the freeze-thaw cycles of a four-season winter heave the stones, open the joints, and leave you with a wavy, puddling surface in a couple of years.
The Base Is the Whole Job
What you see is pavers; what holds them is everything below. We excavate down to firm ground, then build a compacted gravel base in lifts, tamping each layer so the whole thing acts as one solid foundation that drains and resists frost movement. A bedding layer of sand sets the pavers level, and polymeric sand locks the joints against weeds and ants. We pitch every surface to send water off the slope and away from the house. On the lots that grade toward the lake, that drainage planning is half the design.
